President Donald Trump on Sunday slammed Rep. Thomas Massie (R-Ky.) in a social media post, decrying the lawmaker as “weak,” “lazy,” and “pathetic” for opposing him on Iran, the “big beautiful bill” and more.
Massie, the president wrote on Truth Social, “is not MAGA, even though he likes to say he is. Actually, MAGA doesn’t want him, doesn’t know him, and doesn’t respect him.”
Massie has a history of incurring Trump’s wrath. He was one of only two GOP members of the House to vote against the president’s signature bill last month, and more recently has been railing against U.S. military involvement in Iran.
On Sunday, he and Rep. Ro Khanna (D-Calif.) spoke out against the weekend’s attack on Iran during a joint appearance on “Face The Nation.” The two last week introduced a bipartisan resolution that would prohibit Trump from striking Iran without explicit authorization from Congress.
Massie called the attack on Iran unconstitutional, while Trump dismissed him as “a negative force” and “a simple minded grandstander.”
“Massie is weak, ineffective, and votes ‘NO’ on virtually everything put before him (Rand Paul, Jr.), no matter how good something may be,” Trump wrote. “MAGA should drop this pathetic LOSER, Tom Massie, like the plague!”
Trump said he would campaign “really hard” for a challenger to Massie in next year’s primary.
“MAGA is not about lazy, grandstanding, nonproductive politicians, of which Thomas Massie is definitely one,” Trump added.
Trump has urged voters in Massie’s district to reject him in the past, to no avail.
This time, however, Trump’s team is launching a super PAC aimed at funding a MAGA-approved rival, Axios reported. Trump advisor Chris LaCivita told the news organization that the new PAC would spend “whatever it takes” against Massie.
Massie snarked back:
