President Donald Trump on Friday called for a special prosecutor to be appointed to investigate the 2020 presidential election that he lost, repeating his unsubstantiated, broken-record claims that the contest was stolen from him.
“Biden was grossly incompetent, and the 2020 election was a total FRAUD!” he posted on his TruthSocial account. “A Special Prosecutor must be appointed. This cannot be allowed to happen again in the United States of America! Let the work begin!”
Trump, in his post, claimed he won the election against Joe Biden “by a ‘LANDSLIDE’” and said that “the evidence is MASSIVE and OVERWHELMING.” He did not offer any such evidence or cite a source for his conclusion.
Multiple investigations into Trump’s claims — including by his own attorney general at the time of his election loss — have found no such foul play in the election. Numerous legal challenges brought by the Trump campaign and its backers were also rejected by state and federal courts.
Trump’s declaration on Friday appears to be his latest attempt to harm former President Biden’s legacy while simultaneously juggling an uncertain economy, volatile global tariffs and trade conflicts and several ongoing and brewing overseas wars.
Earlier this month, Trump ordered the Department of Justice to investigate whether some of Biden’s actions during his presidency were invalid because of his use of an autopen — a device that Trump has admitted to using himself.

He has also accused Biden’s aides of concealing his reported cognitive decline from the public in what Trump called “one of the most dangerous and concerning scandals in American history.”
Attorney General Pam Bondi has been tapped to lead that investigation. It’s not clear who would lead an investigation into the 2020 election if it were to be carried out.
