Minnesota Governor and former vice presidential candidate Tim Walz told a crowd of Democrats in South Carolina that the party needs to be “meaner” and should “bully the sh*t” out of President Donald Trump. Walz made the remarks during his keynote address at a Democratic event, once again using profanity and aggressive rhetoric in an attempt to energize the party base.
“Maybe it’s time for us to be a little meaner, a little bit more fierce,” Walz told the crowd.
“The thing that bothers a teacher more than anything is to watch a bully,” the governor continued. “And when it's a child, you talk to them and you tell them why bullying is wrong.”
“But when it's an adult like Donald Trump, you bully the sh*t out of him back,” he added.
Walz also called Trump a “wannabe dictator” and said, “Donald is the existential threat we knew was coming.” According to the New York Post, he urged Democrats to resist Trump’s agenda and added, “We’ve got the guts and we need to have it to push back on the bullies and the greed.”
While using an aggressive tone, he also urged Democrats to remain upbeat, saying they should “have some fun and be joyful.”
The former public school teacher also took aim at Trump-backed legislation known as the “big beautiful bill,” saying, “I used to teach Fourth Grade and I was gonna say it sounded like something like a Fourth Grader came up with it but that would be insulting to my Fourth Graders.”
Walz, seen as a possible 2028 presidential contender, has increasingly adopted a more informal speaking style. This effort is likely an attempt to appeal to blue-collar male voters, a group that Democrats have struggled to win over in recent election cycles.
The governor recently faced criticism after mocking Tesla’s falling stock price due to Elon Musk’s leadership. His remarks came under fire when it was revealed that Minnesota’s pension fund owns Tesla shares. Walz later brushed off the criticism, calling himself a “smartass” and claiming the comment was a joke.
