“Daily Show” host Jon Stewart on Monday night said the “most shocking response of all” to the news that former President Joe Biden has cancer came from President Donald Trump.
Trump, who rarely misses an opportunity to bash Biden, instead posted a statement on his Truth Social website saying he was “saddened” by the news that Biden has an aggressive form of prostate cancer and wishing him “a fast and successful recovery.”
“That’s it?” Stewart said in mock disbelief. “No exclamation points, no all caps, no insults, whole thing spelled correctly. It’s really got all the telltale signs of a post definitely written by Donald Trump.”
He wondered if Truth Social was just as confused as he was.
“I wondered, when I saw this post, if Truth Social sent him a security alert,” he said. “They just sent him a quick message, ’We noticed some suspicious humanity on your account. If this was in fact you, President Trump, please reply, ‘Nancy Pelosi’s husband is gay.’”
Stewart called Trump’s message of support for Biden “the most pro-forma, bare minimum, ChatGPT statement” and mocked the Democratic figures who praised the president for it.
Stewart summed up those statements: “I have to applaud that after hearing this devastating news about Joe Biden, that Donald did not take cancer’s side.”
Trump’s supposedly measured approach didn’t even last a full day, as Stewart pointed out in his Monday night “Daily Show” monologue:
