'She doesn’t care': AOC’s district sees 70% crime surge since she took office: report

Crime in the congressional district represented by Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) has risen by 70 percent since she took office in 2019, more than double New York City's overall increase of 30 percent during the same time period, according to a report by the New York Post.

The 110th Precinct in Queens, which is part of Ocasio-Cortez’s district and includes the “Market of Sweethearts” area that is tied to prostitution and human trafficking along Roosevelt Avenue, recorded a 105 percent spike in crime, the highest of any precinct in New York City, the outlet said. This includes violent and major crimes such as murder, rape, robbery, felony assault, burglary, and others.

The 115th Precinct, which also includes parts of Roosevelt Avenue as well as Jackson Heights, East Elmhurst, and North Corona, saw an 85 percent increase in major offenses.

"She’s not doing sh*t. She doesn’t live in the neighborhood, she doesn’t care,” complained resident Guadelupe Alvarez, per the Post. Alvarez is a former supporter of the congresswoman who recounted watching a brothel set up across from her former home and regularly witnessing gang activity and car thefts.

“I can’t wait to get – pardon my language – the f*ck out of here. It makes me so sad that they’ve done that to push me out of my neighborhood. And I’m not the only one. . . . I could never have a family here,” she explained.

Alvarez attempted to confront Ocasio-Cortez at a Bronx town hall last year but said the congresswoman avoided answering.

“I asked, ‘Are you aware of how horrible it’s gotten? When was the last time you were in Jackson Heights, Elmhurst?’ She ignored me and told me, ‘You can ask this person questions’ … who I guess was her assistant. She did a very silent exit through the back,” Alvarez explained. “I think it’s disrespectful. You’re there because of people from my community, and you’re not doing sh*t for our community.”

The sharp rise in crime has reignited criticism of Ocasio-Cortez’s previous support for the “Defund the Police” movement. In 2020, she criticized a $1.5 billion cut to the NYPD for not going far enough.

“Defunding police means defunding police,” she said in the summer of 2020. In 2022, Ocasio-Cortez doubled down on this belief, claiming that “police budgets have nothing to do with crime levels.”
