On Thursday, TPUSA Frontlines reporter Savanah Hernandez was captured on video verbally eviscerating an anti-ICE protester who claimed Hernandez, a US citizen, should fear deportation because of her "brown skin." The confrontation, shared on social media, occurred outside of the Delaney Hall ICE detention facility in Newark, New Jersey. Hernandez challenged the woman's racially charged assertion, exposing the protester's ignorance surrounding the Trump administration's immigration enforcement efforts.
"Yesterday, a white liberal tried to tell me I should be living in fear of deportation because I have 'brown skin.' It's safe to say that she immediately regretted that decision," Hernandez wrote on X, sharing an attached video of the exchange.
According to the video, the demonstrator warned Hernandez that she should be afraid of being apprehended by US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) since she is not a white American. Hernandez instantly clapped back, asserting that the woman's remarks were "racist."
"They'll take you, too. They don't really care," the woman said to Hernandez.
Hernandez responded, "Excuse me? Why do you think they're going to take me, too?"
"Because you have brown skin," the woman said.
"That's pretty racist. I'm an American citizen," Hernandez explained.
The woman responded, "Doesn't matter."
"So, you think I'm going to get deported?" the reporter questioned.
"You could," the woman asserted.
Hernandez then paused, looked into the camera, and said, "So, this woman right here thinks I'm going to get deported because I am a brown woman. That's an extremely racist thing to say, ma'am."
The woman fired back while pointing to the ICE detention facility, "No. The racist people are over there."
Hernandez reiterated to the woman that her remarks were "racist," telling viewers that "this is the average white liberal right here." The reporter explained that she supported the Trump administration's mass deportation efforts and voted for President Donald Trump in the 2024 presidential election because he was the "law and order" candidate, according to the video.
Another female protester then attempted to interject, claiming that Hernandez was at the facility to "take advantage of people's pain," but Hernandez quickly shut her down, too. "You are the one with blue hair right now, a whole a** adult, standing outside a detention facility calling people 'Nazis' in 2025," Hernandez said.
The "blue-haired" woman was then left stunned and speechless, and Hernandez questioned if she thought her friend's previous remarks toward Hernandez were racist. The woman did not answer.
The Delaney Hall ICE detention facility in Newark has garnered national attention in the past week as a result of the arrest of Democratic Mayor Ras Baraka. Baraka was apprehended on trespassing charges after he attempted to invade the facility in protest of immigration enforcement efforts. Additionally, Democratic members of Congress are being investigated for allegedly assaulting ICE agents during the protest; however, no charges have been filed. On Thursday, Mayor Baraka appeared in court to answer the allegations.
