Previously deported illegal immigrant arrested for rape of 13-year-old Florida boy

A previously deported illegal immigrant has been arrested in Florida for the alleged rape of a 13-year-old boy. Samuel Cobos-Carmona, 20, of Mexico, was taken into custody on April 21 in Charlotte County. He has been charged with lewd or lascivious battery by engaging in sexual activity with a minor and was booked into the Charlotte County Jail, records show.

Authorities said Cobos-Carmona was working as a lawn mower when he allegedly approached the victim in the yard behind the victim's home. The boy was playing hide-and-seek with his brother and hiding in the woods when Cobos-Carmona asked if the boy wanted to touch his genitals. The victim declined the sexual advancement, resulting in Cobos-Carmona asking the boy if he could touch the child's buttocks. The boy said, "No," according to court documents.

According to the report, Cobos-Carmona grabbed the child, held him down, and reportedly sexually assaulted him. The child attempted to scream and fight back. The defendant left when he heard the victim's younger brother approaching, Gulf Coast News reported.

The Charlotte County Sheriff's Office said the incident occurred on April 13. The victim's family reported the incident to authorities on April 20. The victim's father told deputies that his two boys did not immediately disclose what had happened after the incident occurred.

Sheriff's deputies located Cobos-Carmona mowing lawns in the area of Pennell Street and Poplar Avenue in Englewood on April 21, and he was subsequently arrested. During questioning, Charlotte County Sheriff Bill Prummell said during a press briefing that Cobos-Carmona allegedly admitted to the crime.

According to Sheriff Prummell, Cobos-Carmona was deported after unlawfully entering the country from Mexico in August 2021. He illegally re-entered the country sometime in early 2022 after fleeing Texas authorities. A warrant was issued for his arrest. The sheriff said Cobos-Carmona was located in Sarasota in July 2024, but was released from custody.
