On Thursday, President Donald Trump said that "things will happen" to Russia if they do not stop bombing Ukraine in the next week and move toward a peace deal.
On Thursday, when Trump was meeting with Norway Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Store in the Oval Office, he was asked by reporters what would happen if Russia continues bombing Ukraine. This comes after a missile strike was launched early Thursday morning on Kyiv, killing at least 10 and injuring dozens more.
"I'd rather answer that question in a week. I want to see if we can have a deal. No reason to answer it now, but I won't be happy. Let me put it that way, things will happen," Trump said.
The comments from Trump come after peace talks between Russia and Ukraine in the war have been on the rocks. As a reporter interjected, asking why he was not putting more pressure on Russia, Trump replied, "We're putting a lot of pressure — you don't know what pressure I'm putting on Russia. They're dealing — you have no idea what pressure I'm putting on Russia."
He was then asked by reporters if the president would divulge the pressure tactics, he continued to say that there is a "lot of pressure on Russia" to come to the negotiating table, and that is the only reason the peace talks have started.
During the meeting with Store and the reporters, he continued to press that the war must come to an end in order to stop the amount of killing happening in the war, and then said that it never would have happened if he were president instead of Biden.
