Majority Of Americans Slap Trump With This 'Dangerous' Label, New Poll Finds

Most Americans have indicated that they view President Donald Trump as a “dangerous dictator,” according to a new survey shared by Axios on Tuesday.

A majority of respondents (52%), in a poll by the nonpartisan Public Religion Research Institute, said they agree that the president “is a dangerous dictator whose power should be limited before he destroys American democracy.”

This figure tops the 44% of those who agreed that Trump is “a strong leader who should be given the power he needs to restore America’s greatness.”

Of those who voted for Trump and now have buyers’ remorse about their pick in last year’s election, 55% agreed that Trump is a “dangerous dictator,” PRRI found.

Among Americans who didn’t vote and now regret their decision, 68% agreed with the statement.

When asked whether they see Trump as a dictator or a strong leader, 56% of independents said they agree with the former label as opposed to 42% of those who backed the latter description.

“Most Americans view Trump in dictatorial terms, and I think most Americans are concerned that American democracy is on the line,” PRRI’s CEO Melissa Deckman told Axios.

“It’s only been 100 days into the Trump administration, yet we’ve really seen a pushback among most Americans to the Trump agenda.”

The survey’s findings bring to mind how Democrats and Trump’s critics often imagined how the president’s leadership in his second term would pan out.

Trump himself — in the lead up to his election win in November —openly claimed that he’d be a dictator on “day one” of his second presidency and promoted a revenge tour against political foes, including Democrats whom he described as the “enemy from within.”

The PRRI poll arrives as Trump — who marked his 100th day in office this week — dismisses figures showing his sinking approval ratings, calling such polls “FAKE” in a late night post on his Truth Social platform on Monday.
