LeBron James will be missing the 2025 Met Gala on Monday night despite being one of the event’s honorary chairs.
The theme for this year is ”Superfine: Tailoring Black Style,” and an accompanying exhibit will open to the public at New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art on May 10.
In a social media post, the Los Angeles Lakers superstar said that he would be unable to attend because of a knee injury he suffered at the end of the NBA regular season.
However, he said the family would be represented by his wife, Savannah, who he called “Queen” in his post:

James dutifully responded with the updated news.
Savannah James will be replacing me in the All-Star Met Gala game! She deserves it!
— LeBron James (@KingJames) May 5, 2025Other people responded to King James’ post by being fashionably snarky.
LeBron James ruling himself out and placing himself on the injury report for the Met Gala is the most LeBron thing ever.

So many people accused LeBron of faking an injury to make an excuse for losing.
He actually faked the injury to get out of being dragged to the Met Gala by his wife.
