Vice President JD Vance has shared a sweeping video montage chronicling his recent visit to Greenland, the Danish territory President Donald Trump is proposing to take over, with lofty claims that are already being picked apart by American social media users.
“President Trump leads America with peace through strength, and that means showing strength when you have to,” Vance wrote Monday on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter, ahead of the minute-long montage. “It’s time to bring security back to Greenland.”
The footage itself showed Vance visiting with U.S. troops at the Pituffik Space Base and was scored to key parts of Vance’s speech there Friday, in which he claimed Trump — who hasn’t ruled out using military force to take the territory over — is “a president of peace.”
“Unfortunately, the story of Greenland over the past 20 years, when it comes to security, is that we’ve underinvested in the brave men and women who are doing a very hard job to keep all of us safe,” says Vance in the clip. “That has to change.”
The bold claim that Trump is interested in peace hasn’t gone over smoothly on X, as the president recently suggested that the U.S. should “take over” Gaza and turn it into “the Riviera of the Middle East” — and is currently also proposing Canada’s annexation.
“JD Vance’s Greenland stunt is a reckless extension of Trump’s imperialist fantasies,” wrote one X user. “Bullying a Danish territory for ‘security’ while ignoring allies like Denmark, who’ve outdone the U.S. in Ukraine aid, is peak MAGA arrogance.”
“This isn’t strength,” they continued, “it’s a diplomatic disaster that isolates America.”
Trump first floated the idea in 2019, but has broached it far more seriously on numerous occasions during his second term. Last week, he said the U.S. will “go as far as we have to go” to acquire the territory, prompting warranted pushback from its prime minister.

“Don’t believe anything Trump or Vance say about Greenland,” wrote one X user Monday. “This isn’t about defending Greenland. It’s about American appropriation of the island’s mineral wealth, with much of it being unlocked because of climate change.”
Another user wondered how integral to U.S. national security Greenland could be if Vance hadn’t mentioned it publicly “even once” before the election. During his visit, Vance told reporters, “We can’t just ignore this place. We can’t just ignore the president’s desires.”
The vice president is now hearing from U.S. voters through frustrated social media posts.
Has anyone in Greenland asked for your "peace through strength" or is this just your idea?
— Kadi🇪🇪🌻 (@TheFl0orIsLaVa) March 31, 2025Shut up about peace through strength—this administration doesn’t value that.
Bullying our allies isn’t peace through strength. Trying to appease Putin isn’t peace through strength. Leaking confidential military operation details isn’t peace through strength.
Funny reasoning.
Why don't you then just reactivate closed US bases in Greenland?
Oh, it's not about security, right?
It's about trying illegal US landgrab, like your buddy Putin tried.
Did that work out for him so far?

What does that mean? You're going to invade Greenland and completely alienate Europe just to take over a piece of land with 40k inhabitants?
Stop being such a moron just to pander to Trump, it's embarrassing.
1. Create imaginary problem.
2. Develop phony arguments to justify doing something about the imaginary problem.
3. Use phony arguments to tell us how addressing the imaginary problem represents "peace through strength."
