On Saturday evening, not long after the US struck Iran’s nuclear facilities, Rep Jasmine Crockett (D-TX) told those at a gathering that there was a "thug sitting in the White House" and that she’s "supposed to make the f*cking decision" with respect to going to war.
Crockett said nobody had "texted me, called me, signaled me, nothing."
"And we walk in and my heart sank, because the idea of starting a war, it just ain’t a good idea. And to sit and be one of 435 in the house, and to understand enough about the Constitution to the extent that I'm the one that's supposed to make the f*cking decision, or at least get a vote.”
Crockett said that here power "comes from the Constitution,” adding, “And it is clear that I have power. And somehow, because we got a thug sitting in the White House, he has decided to ignore my power."
She went on to say that Trump has "said, f*ck it to the Constitution, over and over again," and that this was due to a "permission structure that has been created."
"This permission structure came at the point in which he decided that he was going to invoke the Enemy Aliens Act and declare that we randomly at war, and decide he just gonna start kicking motherf*ckers out. Like that's what he did. It came when he decided that somehow we were in need of an emergency declaration as relates to our economy, so that he can start a tariff war. We allowed this.”
In a separate post to social media late Saturday, Crockett said, "So long story short, for those of you that are unaware, the mofo that resides in the White House has unilaterally, in my estimation, declared war."
During her 20-minute video, Crockett said that "there's only one Republican that I know I can count on for sure doing the right thing. And that's going to be Thomas Massie. The rest of them, it's a little bit questionable."
Trump has called for Rep. Thomas Massie (R-KY) to be voted out of office over his objections to the US strikes on Iran’s nuclear facilities. Massie, alongside Democrat California Rep. Ro Khanna (D-CA), has introduced a resolution to "prohibit involvement in Iran."
Massie said, "The Constitution does not permit the executive branch to unilaterally commit an act of war against a sovereign nation that hasn’t attacked the United States." Under Article 1, Section 8, and Clause 11 of the Constitution, Congress is given the power to "To declare War, grant Letters of Marque and Reprisal, and make Rules concerning Captures on Land and Water."
