After the fatal stabbing of 17-year-old Austin Metcalf, suspect Karmelo Anthony told a police officer that he was the one who stabbed the teen, according to the arrest report obtained by CBS News.
Anthony has been taken into custody and has been charged with first-degree murder. His bond is set at $1,000,000. The stabbing, which took place on Wednesday, reportedly stemmed from a confrontation between Metcalf and Anthony over the suspect sitting under the wrong school's tent at a track meet.
A witness to the stabbing said that Anthony walked over to the tent and that Metcalf told him to leave. Once he was told to leave, Anthony said, "Touch me and see what happens, “ as he reached inside his bag. The report from the police indicated that witnesses did not think Anthony had a weapon on him.
Metcalf then touched Anthony, according to one witness. Another said that Metcalf grabbed Anthony during the confrontation. Anthony then pulled out the knife and stabbed Metcalf in chest before running away from the scene and discarding the knife, police said.
One witness said that Metcalf grabbed his chest, telling others to get help. According to the arrest report, cited by CBS News, Anthony complied with police and when an officer said, "I have the alleged suspect [in custody]," Anthony replied, "I'm not alleged, I did it."
Anthony told officers that Metcalf had "put his hands on [him]." When Anthony was being transported in the police vehicle, officers said that he asked if Metcalf would be ok and if the stabbing would be seen as self-defense.
Metcalf died in his twin brother's arms after the stabbing and was not able to be revived despite efforts from first responders.
