Rep. Tom Emmer (R-Minn.) almost made a gaffe for the ages on Tuesday as he nearly referred to President Donald Trump by a vulgar word in remarks at a National Republican Congressional Committee dinner.
“President cun — President Donald Trump is counting on us,” said the House majority whip to the Washington, D.C., crowd.
Emmer’s remarks to the attendees, who paid up to $310,000 to attend the dinner, arrived in the lead-up to Trump’s speech later in the evening.
Prior to his nearly NSFW flub, Emmer stumbled as he loudly greeted the GOP guests.
“Hello, fellow Republicans! No, hello febr — feh— fellow Republicans, where are ya?” Emmer shouted.
“I know this is the uh, this is the cheap time. You get to hear from me then, you’re going to get energy out of Steve Scalise! And you’re gonna get some energy out of our speaker, Mike Johnson! But guess what! The show is Donald J. Trump. So get ready.”
Emmer, whose bid to become House speaker was once “killed” by Trump in 2023, was heavily mocked on social media over the “Freudian slip.”
Best Freudian slip of the week. 🍿
