A hoax social media post that was falsely attributed to Donald Trump duped Fox Business anchor Maria Bartiromo during a live broadcast Monday.
Bartiromo was speaking with Rep. Dan Crenshaw (R-Texas) about the U.S. Army’s costly 250th anniversary celebrations on Saturday — which coincided with Trump’s 79th birthday — and also the millions who participated in the anti-Trump “No Kings” protests nationwide on the same day.
“I love the way the president handled” the protests, Bartiromo said, before reading out what she thought was a Truth Social post from Trump.
It stated:
“A HUGE THANK YOU to all the ‘No Kings’ protesters yesterday! I was very concerned a king was trying to take my place, but thanks to your tireless efforts, I am STILL YOUR PRESIDENT! Great job all!!!”
“Yeah, I saw that,” said Crenshaw.
“The president had fun with that,” gushed Bartiromo.
The post, however, was fake.
Watch from the 9-minute mark here:
Even Trump’s eldest son, Donald Trump Jr., confirmed so.
“It’s not real, but it should be. I might have to make a phone call. Lol,” the Trump scion wrote alongside a screenshot of the post on Instagram.
