Donald Trump drew fresh mockery online Tuesday for his latest spin on the ongoing fallout from his tariffs, which have sparked concerns of a global recession and been questioned by even some of his staunchest supporters.
During a rambling, lengthy speech at the National Republican Congressional Committee Dinner in Washington, D.C., Trump claimed that Republicans will actually benefit from the situation come the 2026 midterm elections.
Trump has admitted there will be economic pain caused by the upheaval but has insisted that it will all come good for America in the end.
“I really think we’re helped a lot by the tariffs situation that’s going on, which is a good situation, not a bad, it’s great, it’s going to be legendary, you watch. Legendary in a positive way, I have to say. It’s going to be legendary,” Trump said.
Despite the president’s “positive” emphasis on the word “legendary,” critics on social media begged to differ and suggested the comments could come back to haunt Trump and the GOP next year.
This is out of touch with reality. Democrats could win back the Senate at this rate.
