President Donald Trump attempted to split responsibility for the U.S. economy during an interview that aired Sunday, leading to mockery and criticism online.
In a sit-down with NBC News’ “Meet the Press” anchor Kristen Welker, Trump was asked about the current state of the U.S. economy following a contraction during his first 100 days back in office, which has also seen market turmoil thanks to his trade agenda and controversial tariffs.
“When does it become the Trump economy?” Welker asked Trump, who has repeatedly sought to blame his predecessor, now-former President Joe Biden, for any economic blips.
“It partially is right now,” Trump replied. “I think the good parts are the Trump economy, and the bad parts are the Biden economy.”

Trump was accused of trying to have it both ways with his reply as the moment went viral on social media:
It’s just such a childish, simplistic response, but not unexpected from our egomaniacal President. “Everything and anything negative is Biden’s fault.” “All the good stuff is due to my brilliance and perfect policies.”

He’s cooked.
And he knows it.

Just a fundamentally unserious human.
Down to his core, a clown.

Biden is not in office, it is all his now. The rest is all perception.

— Timothy Bellman (@Timothy_Bellman) May 4, 2025When asked about who should get credit or blame for the economy, Trump actually said this, "I think the good parts are the Trump economy and the bad parts are the Biden economy." Come on. How does anyone take this guy seriously?

Trump says the good parts of the economy are the Trump economy and the bad parts are the Biden economy.
Maga elected a grown man who acts like a child, incapable of taking ownership of their actions.
