President Donald Trump's "Art of the Deal" skyrocketed on Amazon's bestseller book list after he put a 90-day pause on reciprocal tariffs against various nations internationally and increased tariffs against China on Wednesday.
The book was able to hit at least the number 4 spot on Amazon's bestseller list after the pause to the tariffs came on Wednesday, leading to a rally in the stock market yesterday.
It was ranked as the top book in the Biographies of Business & Industrial Professionals section on Amazon, had the number two spot in the Motivational Management & Leadership section, and was number three in the Business & Money list at the time of writing.
Last week, Trump announced a slew of his "reciprocal tariffs" on goods imported to the US, leading to market volatility as well as countries wanting to cut a deal to go to "zero-for-zero" tariffs with the United States. China, however, retaliated against the tariffs imposed an additional tariff hike of 34 percent on all US goods, along with sanctions on rare earth mineral companies.
In response, Trump threatened to increase the tariffs on China, and put them into motion on Wednesday, along with the many other reciprocal tariffs. However, by mid-morning, Trump announced that he was pausing the tariffs on countries except for China so that the US could negotiate better trade relations with countries such as Japan, India, as well as the European Union.
"The Art of the Deal" was authored by Trump and Tony Schwartz and originally published in 1987. According to Inc., "The Art of the Deal" breaks down the practice of dealmaking into 11 negotiation tactics, including thinking big, using your leverage, and maximizing your options. The tactics may offer insight into what Trump was doing with the tariffs.
Bill Ackman, who said that Trump needed to implement a 90-day pause earlier this week, posted, “This was brilliantly executed by Donald Trump. Textbook, Art of the Deal.”
