Designer Recalls Donald Trump's Quirky Airplane Makeover Demand

1 month ago 3

Donald Trump’s $37 million redesign of his private Boeing 757 in the early 2010s came with the expected Trumpian trimmings of gold finishes and a gigantic TV.

But there was also a quirky request from the now-president.

In an interview with Forbes published Tuesday, aircraft interior design specialist Eric Roth recalled his surprise when Trump asked him for a special area in the plane’s galley dedicated to Oreo cookies.

“I said to him, ‘Mr. Trump, really?’” Roth remembered. “And he replied, ‘I love Oreos.’”

Roth also recalled Trump’s hands-on approach when upgrading the aircraft, which is now dubbed Trump Force One by the president’s supporters.

“As a developer, you’re going to have plenty of architects and designers on staff or certainly at your disposal,” Roth said. “And in this case, it wasn’t that at all. It was just him and myself.”

Roth’s anecdote emerged amid intensifying scrutiny of Trump’s Qatari plane controversy as even top Republicans express concerns over the gift of a $400 million jumbo jet by the emirate’s ruling family for the president to use.
