The Democratic National Committee Vice Chair David Hogg admitted during an interview that Democrats spent around $2 billion in an attempt to have Americans "not believe their eyes" when it came to the issue of former President Joe Biden's age and decline as well as the economy.
Appearing on Real Time with Bill Maher, Hogg — who became a gun control activist after the 2018 Parkland High School shooting — told the host, "I’m going to get a lot of heat for what I’m about to say from my fellow Democrats. But we told people — people said to us that Joe Biden is too old, and they said that prices are too high. And we said with the power of $2 billion behind us, 'No, he’s not,' and 'Yes, he is,' and then 'No, they aren’t, and look at this graph of the stock market.'"
“If you tell people not to believe their eyes or their wallets you’re going to lose them," Hogg added.
Earlier in the segment, Maher and Hogg were arguing over what had turned voters away from the Democrat Party in the 2024 election, with Trump being the first Republican in over 20 years. Maher argued that woke ideology was the source of the issue after Hogg said that Democrats have to do a better job at assisting Americans with welfare services.
“But people know that this is what the Democrats are better at. They still didn't vote for them. It was more the woke stuff. Wasn't the strategy that Trump employed?"
Maher added that a political ad that worked for Trump focused on gender issues, with the GOP targeting more woke ideas. Although Hogg said the ad worked, he went on to claim that the main reason the Democrats lost had to do with their messaging strategy over Biden and the economy.
