President Donald Trump and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman of Saudi Arabia signed a series of agreements on energy, defense, and other areas on Tuesday.
Multiple agreements signed at the formal ceremony focused on cooperation between the US and Saudi military, including "modernization and development of the capabilities of the Saudi armed forces through future defense capabilities,” "ammunition training, support services, maintenance system upgrades, spare parts and education for land and air systems of the National Guard,” as well “development of the health capabilities of the Saudi armed forces," CNN reported.
In a fact sheet released by the White House, the Trump administration touted the deals signed on Tuesday, "Today in Saudi Arabia, President Donald J. Trump announced Saudi Arabia’s $600-billion commitment to invest in the United States, building economic ties that will endure for generations to come. The first deals under the announcement strengthen our energy security, defense industry, technology leadership, and access to global infrastructure and critical minerals," it read.
Trump was seen with bin Salman in a large ballroom for the ceremony, where they signed the agreements. Another was focused on cooperation between the US and Saudi Arabia for “medical research related to infectious diseases,” “judicial cooperation," as well as a partnership between the FBI and the Saudi Ministry of Interior.
The fact sheet also addressed a $20 billion investment from the Saudis into AI data centers and energy infrastructure around the US with Saudi Arabian firm DataVolt. In addition, the fact sheet detailed more of the deals.
"Investment partnerships include several sector-specific funds with a strong emphasis on U.S. deployment—such as the $5 billion Energy Investment Fund, the $5 billion New Era Aerospace and Defense Technology Fund, and the $4 billion Enfield Sports Global Sports Fund—each channeling substantial capital into American industries, driving innovation, and creating high-quality jobs across the United States," the fact sheet read.
Trump said of the crown prince during the events, “I really believe we like each other a lot," and added that the two have a “tremendous relationship." The crown prince has emerged as an ally to Trump in the Middle East as the administration has tried to bring peace to the war between Russia and Ukraine.
A previously announced $600 billion investment from Saudi Arabia in the US was discussed by Trump, and the president joked that it could turn into a "$1 trillion" investment in the US.
