Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem had her bag with $3,000 cash inside of it stolen while out at a dinner in Washington, DC on Sunday.
Her bag also had her driver’s license, passport, DHS badge, makeup, checks, medication, and keys in it, the New York Post reported.
Footage is being reviewed by the Secret Service.
The Post says that the suspect is a white man in a surgical mask. The Secret Service has launched an investigation to tack down any use of Noem’s cards. It’s unclear whether a suspect has been identified.
The former South Dakota governor, 53, has been leading the DHS since late January. Last month, she visited El Salvador’s Terrorism Confinement Center (CECOT).
DHS spokesperson Tricia McLaughlin confirmed the incident in an email to Daily Mail and provided some additional information.
"Her entire family was in town including her children and grandchildren—she was using the withdrawal to treat her family to dinner, activities, and Easter gifts," McLaughlin said.
