Bill Clinton has one big fear about the future of America, and it should probably concern you too.
During an appearance on “The View” Thursday, the former president took a dim view about how the Supreme Court is dealing with Donald Trump’s administration.
“The Supreme Court has made some good decisions ― which, so far, have been ignored,” Clinton said, citing the court’s ruling that the Trump White House must facilitate the return of Kilmar Abrego Garcia, a Maryland man who was mistakenly deported to prison in El Salvador.
But Trump officials continue to ignore the order, leading the court to rebuke the administration’s failure to comply.
Trump’s defiance of orders from the judicial branch concerns Clinton.
He told “The View” panel that there’s a possibility “the courts won’t hold until we have midterm elections” and added that it’s something all Americans should be worried about, “whatever your politics.”
Clinton also cynically suggested that the 6-3 Conservative majority on the court might be more careful about protecting the country from unprecedented presidential overreach if Trump is no longer in power.
“I have a sneaking suspicion that if [the Democrats were] in the White House, there will be a ‘Hallelujah’ moment and the Supreme Court will rediscover the Constitution, the Bill of Rights, and the limits of power,” Clinton predicted.
Although Clinton had his own issues with the court during his two terms as president in the 1990s, he insisted to “The View” that he believes in limiting presidential power “because all of us should operate under guardrails.”
Clinton added that “the whole purpose of the Constitution was to repeal royal governments, unaccountable governments, that no Democrat or Republican can be without accountability.”
Despite the chilling prediction of life over the next year and a half, Clinton insisted, “I’m pretty upbeat about it.”
