An illegal immigrant who is wanted for child rape in Italy was able to escape arrest after anti-ICE activists alerted him to the whereabout of immigration enforcement agents.
ICE Denver posted on X, "This morning ICE & [Denver FBI] were attempting to arrest Jose Reyes Leon-Deras, a criminal alien from El Salvador who is convicted of and wanted for child rape in Italy. During our surveillance of Leon, members of Colorado Rapid Response arrived on scene and alerted him to law enforcements presence which allowed him to escape arrest."
"Groups like this interfere with ICE’s ability to keep communities safe. If you know his whereabouts, do not approach, if seen, instead report all info to ICE at 1-866-347-2423," the social media account added.
Democrat Denver Mayor Mike Johnston has previously said that police in the city would prevent the arrest of illegal immigrants by ICE and prevent deportations, but later walked back his comments. There have been a number of anti-ICE riots and protests across the country in recent weeks in response
Earlier this month, several cars were set on fire in Los Angeles after there were reports of ICE raids being conducted in the city. Since then, the Trump administration has vowed to ramp up deportations and immigration raids in the largest cities around the country.
In a post to Truth Social earlier this week, Trump wrote that ICE has displayed “incredible strength, determination, and courage” in recent operations, and that more deportations will be taking place across large cities.
“In order to achieve this, we must expand efforts to detain and deport Illegal Aliens in America’s largest Cities, such as Los Angeles, Chicago, and New York, where Millions upon Millions of Illegal Aliens reside,” Trump added. “These, and other such Cities, are the core of the Democrat Power Center, where they use Illegal Aliens to expand their Voter Base, cheat in Elections, and grow the Welfare State, robbing good paying Jobs and Benefits from Hardworking American Citizens.”
